According to The Vision Council, 63.7% of adults in the US wear prescription (Rx) glasses. Factor in contact lenses and other forms of vision correction, and that number jumps to 75.6%. That’s three out of every four Boomers, Gen Xers, Millennials, and even some Gen Zers out there—which is a lot of people. Luckily, mixed reality is for everyone. In fact, two of our responsible innovation principles are Consider Everyone and Put People First, so we build with lots of people in mind—including those who may be near- or far-sighted.
And just like you can choose between glasses and contacts on a daily basis, you have choices with Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S, too: You can wear your glasses, pop in some contacts, or opt for prescription lens inserts.
Prescription Lens Inserts From Zenni®
Prescription lens inserts from Zenni are a seamless addition to your mixed reality headset—and they’re an incredibly comfortable option. They’re thin and lightweight, with anti-reflective and anti-scratch coatings included. You can also opt for an oil-resistant coating to avoid pesky fingerprints or an anti-fog coating that’s perfect for workouts and active play sessions (with or without a prescription). Prescription lens inserts are available for Quest 3 as well as Quest 3S and Quest 2 (make sure you pick the correct one).
They’re simple to install—just pop ’em into place—and you can keep your inserts safe, secure, and smudge- and dust-free with the included carrying case and cleaning cloth. Consider writing your name on the case to tell whose is whose.
How to Insert Your Lens Inserts:
- Position your headset with the lenses facing you.
- Align the lens inserts for left (L) and right (R).
- The (L) and (R) markings on the Quest 3 lens inserts should be at the bottom.
- The (L) and (R) markings on the Quest 3S / Quest 2 lens inserts should be at the top.
- Gently push the lens inserts onto the headset lenses until they snap into place.
- Change the lens spacing on your headset until the visuals are clear and comfortable to see.
- To change the lens spacing on your Quest 3, use the lens adjustment wheel on the bottom left-hand side of the headset.
- To change the lens spacing on Quest 3S or Quest 2, gently grab the outer part of one of the lenses and shift the lens left or right until the lenses click into the position that makes the picture clearest for you.
- If you need more room for the lens inserts, you can use the depth adjustment buttons on Quest 3 or install the glasses spacer accessory on Quest 2 or Quest 3S.
If you find that your lens inserts touch your eyelashes or face, you can use Quest 3’s eye-relief buttons or Quest 3S’s glasses spacer (included in the box) for a bit more room.
How to Remove Your Lens Inserts:
- Position your headset with the lens inserts facing you. Putting the headset on a surface or in your lap may help.
- Push/pull up and away on the lens inserts to remove.
- For the lens inserts for Quest 3, pull up and away from the headset. A fingernail underneath may help.
- For the lens inserts for Quest 3S or Quest 2, pull up and away on the tab of the lens frame. The easiest way may be to put your palm face down, place a few fingers underneath the tab, and pull up.
- If needed, you can remove the headset’s facial interface to give you more room or ease to remove the inserts.
Go With Glasses
Depending on the size of your frames, you could decide to just wear your glasses during your MR exploits. Quest 3’s eye-relief buttons or Quest 3S’s glasses spacer can help if things get a little crowded.
If your glasses are crooked or the lenses are scratched, it could impair your MR experience, so bear that in mind. Also, be careful to avoid scratching your eyeglass lenses on the headset lenses (and vice versa). When in doubt, consider a smaller pair of glasses, prescription lens inserts, or contacts for a more comfortable fit. 🤓
Close Contact(s)
Last but not least, prescription contact lenses are another great option. Just put them in as you normally would, grab your Quest 3 or 3S headset, and you’re off to the races! 🏇
