Jumpstart January: ‘Litesport’ Transforms Your Meta Quest into an All-In-One Fitness Solution

Litesport is a fun-filled VR fitness program that brings a variety of workouts and real-life trainers into your physical environment through the power of mixed reality. From cardio, boxing, strength training, and bootcamp exercises, it offers a ton of options.

With new classes added every week, there’s always something to get you up and moving. There are also several captivating environments you can visit if you’d like to escape the confines of your physical reality.

To learn more about Litesport and what’s in store for the app’s future, we spoke with CEO Jeff Morin as part of our Jumpstart January series.

To kick us off, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background and what brought you to Litesport and Liteboxer?

Jeff Morin: I’m a father of three, a mechanical engineer, and an MIT graduate. I’ve worked at startups in robotics, hospital logistics, and 3D printing. I connected with my co-founder, Todd Dagres, through LinkedIn. Todd, an early Oculus investor and venture capitalist, approached me about creating a technology for home sparring with a trainer.

This idea evolved into Liteboxer, a hardware-based fitness product dubbed the ‘Peloton of boxing.’ Our breakthrough moment came at PAX East, where our prototype drew massive interest. We later pivoted to VR and launched on Quest, doubling our two-year hardware subscriber base in just 27 days. Now, we’re fully focused on delivering transformative fitness experiences through XR.

What’s the latest Litesport news? Do you have any new features that you’re working on?

JM: We’re launching exciting new features like Combo Hero, which uses Meta’s Inside-Out Body Tracking for gamified sparring. In this mode, you spar with a trainer, building longer combos like the game Simon. It also provides a third-person avatar view to help users improve their form.

Another major update is Form Coach, addressing a common request: “How do I know if I’m doing this correctly?” With headset tracking, trainers can give real-time feedback on exercises like squats. It’s like having a personal trainer in your living room.

We’re also introducing an adventure mode, blending fitness and gaming with obstacle courses. New users can enjoy one month of our standard subscription for just 99¢ or the premium subscription—featuring top-charting music—for $8.99 USD.

What kind of response have you seen from the community, both with the initial launch and subsequent updates?

JM: The response has been fantastic. Many users are integrating Litesport with other fitness apps like Supernatural to build comprehensive routines. Mixed reality has been a game-changer, allowing people to combine VR workouts with real dumbbells.

We’ve also heard from parents who bought Quest headsets for their kids but now use them for their own fitness. Some even buy additional headsets to avoid sharing!

How do you see Quest and Litesport fitting into a broader home fitness ecosystem?

JM: Our approach is built on “The Three A’s:”

  1. Accessibility: Bringing top trainers to users’ homes, no matter where they live.
  2. Accountability: Tracking progress and ensuring proper form.
  3. Adaptability: Personalizing workouts to help users improve over time.

With Quest’s affordability and portability, it’s easy for anyone to set up a full gym experience at home or take it on the go.

What drew you to fitness and wellness, and how did you transition into VR/MR?

JM: Fitness and gamification have always been passions of mine. I even started a fitness venture during my MIT days. When I saw the untethered potential of the Quest Platform, it felt like the perfect way to merge my interests in technology and fitness.

What do you find most compelling about home workouts, especially in VR/MR?

JM: Convenience is key. As a father of three, I value being able to fit in a workout without the logistics of going to a gym. VR workouts also reduce the intimidation factor. With Litesport, people can build confidence at home and then transition to in-person classes if they choose.

Litesport has leaderboards. Can users compete with others?

JM: Absolutely! Users can challenge friends directly or compete on leaderboards in modes like punch tracks. There are varying difficulty levels to suit everyone’s comfort zone.

Why is now the right time to check out Litesport?

JM: It’s ‘New Year, New You’ season! With Quest 3’s competitive pricing and our incredible deals, this is the perfect time to dive into VR fitness. Plus, our new features and programs make it easier than ever to stay motivated and achieve your goals.

Anything else to share?

JM: Our premium subscription includes access to Universal Music Group’s library—featuring artists like Olivia Rodrigo and The Rolling Stones—making workouts even more enjoyable. At just $8.99 USD a month, Litesport is the best value in VR fitness. And don’t forget, you can challenge friends and family for added fun!
